Mazda geared up to expand lineup
James Muir President and CEO of Mazda announced that the company had plans to "go a bit upmarket, to attract buyers looking for an aspirational brand." Mazda has always had the sports car edge, infusing dynamic movement, sleek shapes, and bold athletic presence into its model lineup. Mazda is now considering expanding its model lines to offer more variations and include some new ones. Mazda is drawing styling cues from its own radical concepts of "Flow Design", "a design that visually expresses the flow of air", for the next generation of Mazda sports cars, with the goal of creating a sustainable society. The "flow" theme visually defines its credentials, and sets new standards for environmental and driving performance, with a front-engine rear-wheel-drive layout, 2-seat configuration, centering on the performance rotary engine sports packaging, synonymous with the Mazda name. The "Flow" design theme underlies Mazda concept vehicles such as the Kiyora recently unveiled at the Paris Motor how. A sporty, compact crossover SUV was showcased at this year's Moscow International Automobile Salon, designed especially for the Russian market. A new city car is on the anvil and could be known as the Mazda1. Rumor has it that Mazda's top performer, a new RX-7, powered by Mazda's unique Renesis rotary engine will soon join the Mazda lineup. The new Mazda2 to make its debut at Geneva auto show
The new three-door Mazda2 will be launched at the 78th annual Geneva International Motor Show to be held from March 4 to March 16, 2008. The Mazda2 will join the Mazda2 model lineup and have all the attributes of the five-door hatchback. The hatchback will offer responsive MZR 1.3-liter and 1.5-liter petrol powertrains and the same MZ-CD 1.4-liter common-rail turbo diesel in the five-door hatchback. These engines achieve high fuel efficiency and low CO2 emissions. The Mazda2 was launched in September 2007 as Mazda's first new generation Zoom-Zoom vehicle. It was an immediate hit with European customers and was awarded more than 20 automotive awards. The dealer believes that the new Mazda2 has been completely redesigned and gets the maker's unique gram strategy and chassis. It is nearly 100 kgs lighter than the previous version.
