2009 Mazda CX-7

Overview

2009 Mazda CX-7 is a mid-size crossover SUV distinctly designed for style and thrilling sports car driving dynamics. This five-passenger crossover is roomy and reasonably priced and, at the same time, offers a bold union of form and function that marks a departure from the traditional SUV. Influenced by Mazda's RX-8 and MX-5 Miata sports cars, the CX-7's performance and handling abilities make it the most rewarding choice in its segment. The Mazda CX-7 remains unchanged for the 2009 model year except for a few optional features and package modifications.

Powertrain and Performance

The Mazda CX-7 is powered by a 2.3-liter, direct injection, turbo-charged four-cylinder engine that delivers 244 horsepower and better mileage than a V6 engine. The combination of a turbocharger and direct injection spark ignition (DISI) offers the level of performance found in large V6 engines. The front-wheel drive is standard and also available is an active torque split all-wheel drive. The engine is paired with a six-speed sport automatic transmission with manual shift mode.

Body and Styling

The 2009 CX-7 boasts of an attractive exterior design incorporating the broad dynamic curves of the sporty RX-8. Sculpted front fenders and a steeply slopped windshield give a sleek, athletic appearance. This midsize, five-passenger, crossover SUV comes in three distinct trim levels: Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring, offering seating for five and enough room for their luggage. All the trims are generously appointed. Even the base Sport trim has 18-inch alloy wheels; cruise control; air-conditioning; full power accessories; a six-way manual adjustable driver seat; and a stereo system with a CD player and MP3 capability as standard.

The Touring model adds heated front seats; leather upholstery; an eight-way power driver seat; and a retractable cargo cover. The high-end Grand Touring features unique leather upholstery; xenon headlights; heated exterior mirrors; an upgraded gauge cluster; automatic headlights; and automatic climate control.

Safety Features

Standard safety features on the 2009 Mazda CX-7 include anti-lock brake system with electronic brake force distribution and brake assist; dynamic stability control and traction control system; three-point safety belts for all seating positions; LATCH - child safety seat anchors; a tire pressure monitoring system; advanced driver and front passenger air bags; front side-impact air bags; and front/rear side air curtains with roll-over protection.
